A few months after the creation of Group Delmas 91, I begin to feel that I was called to do more for our community (“Old Friends New Family”). Sure, sending texts and voice messages to each over the WhatsApp’s platform was helping keep all of us informed, but there was a need to give. In July of 2020 I created the idea of a Food Bank with a monthly goal to feed the families in need. I reached out to the members of the group at that time, as well as my coworkers to see if anyone was willing to donate monies that would be sent back home to a local store so that our new family can receive rice, oil, sugar, and beans to help them during their difficult times.
Our first official Food Bank was in September 19th, 2020 right after the group’s inauguration ceremony and we feed 52 families. After the success of the first Food Bank there was an outpour from more families that needed assistance and wanted to be added to our monthly food pantry giving's. Since then, we were able to feed 60 families on October 19th, 2020, 64 families on November 19th, 2020, 64 families on December 19th, 2020, and 70 families on January 19th, 2021, and 85 families on March 19th, 2021and 85 families on April 19th, 2021, and 91 families on July 19th, 2021, 91 families on September 19th, 2021, 95 families on December 19th, 2021. April 19th, 2022 we feed 100 families. There are more families still in need and we want to feed them all.
